Medical Malpractice Insights From Menzer Law Group

On the road, you could find yourself involved in a traffic collision for a host of reasons. If an accident occurs because of the negligence of another driver, you need to immediately review the details of the incident and take a firm stand for your rights. Aside from speeding, drunk driving and distracted driving, bad weather can also lead to a devastating collision.

Unfortunately, irresponsible and careless drivers become an even bigger concern during bad weather, such as fog, rain, snow and ice.

How can weather increase the odds of a crash?

The Federal Highway Administration outlines some of the traffic accident risks associated with inclement weather. For example, fog can result in decreased visibility and it can also lead to speed variance, which increases the odds of vehicles colliding. Wind can cause debris and blowing snow to obstruct the road and affect visibility, while precipitation can adversely impact traction, causing a driver to lose control of their vehicle.

How many weather-related crashes occur annually?

The FHA reports that during a typical year, more than 5,891,000 accidents involving vehicles occur. Among these accidents, weather plays a role in roughly 21%, almost 1,235,000. Traffic crashes involving weather cause 418,000 people to suffer injuries every year, on average. More weather-related traffic collisions involve rain or wet pavement than other types of inclement weather.

If you are facing hardships after a motor vehicle crash, you need to take a close look at some of the resources that could help you move forward, especially if you struggle with financial, physical or mental hardships because of the accident.
